OPERATION MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY (OMAD)

NOVEMBER 11, 2007

August 2007

As the Honorary Chairperson, I am delighted to invite you to attend the 2nd Annual Operation

Military Appreciation Day (OMAD) in Bloomington, Indiana on November 11, 2007.

During my nine years as a legislator, I have had the privilege of meeting and working with countless

individuals who are patriots. These are men and women who served or are currently serving our

country with honor and dignity. Our military, especially our National Guard service personnel,

perform a dual mission of participating in America's military conflicts and assisting in disaster

recovery and protection of our communities. These military personnel are constantly challenged in

their choices whether it is on the battlefield, the classroom, or at home. They learn to balance their

different roles, while contributing much to our communities--knowing that at any time they could be

called upon to leave their families and enter life-threatening situations.  Despite the challenges of

their duty, our service men and women are committed to carrying out their assigned mission. And

for this, these men and women should be recognized, honored, and thanked.

OMAD has demonstrated that awareness of the military personnel’s sacrifice is both honorable and

required by our community.  As our military help protect all that we treasure, we need to take time to

applaud their effort and recognize the sacrifices that are being made. OMAD’s Steering Committee

has organized a strong and exciting program to help us do just that!  Since the last Military

Appreciation Day, OMAD participants have maintained an outstanding record of voluntary activities

on behalf of those in the military and their families.

It is my great honor and privilege to be associated with the 2007 Operation Military Appreciation

Day and this important opportunity for recognizing our military efforts, both past and present.

Today, Indiana men and women and their families are sacrificing for us through military service. On

November 11th, we will have the chance to thank them for that service.

I look forward to seeing you at the Monroe County Fairgrounds on November 11th!

Sincerely,

Peggy Welch
